Hello, my name is Kate Calder I have been painting since high school, where I studied Art and Art History After leaving school and some years later we moved deep into the South Island high country. Where the colours and huge landscape were truly inspirational, this urging me to pick up my paint brushes again. Mostly self-taught but influenced by Ben Woolcombe and Austin Deans. My work could be described as contemporary and depicts my surroundings of living and working on the land and the very many extraordinary creatures and creations around us. I have exhibited at Merivale Fine Arts’, Ashburton Art Gallery’, Augustine Gallery’, Art in a Garden’ and other private exhibitions. Amelia is a ceramic artist based in Akaroa, New Zealand. Her pottery is meticulously crafted using the traditional method of handbuilding. A distinctive feature of her work is the glazing, which draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Akaroa Harbour. The colour palette, predominantly greens and blues, mirrors the harbor’s waters, the surrounding hills, and the native bushland. Amelia further enhances her pieces by creating unique textures in the clay. This is achieved through the use of native plants, as well as the incorporation antique lace, and fabrics, adding significant depth and character to each creation. “I take pride in making functional quality pottery that is ovenproof, dishwasher safe, and food safe.”
